Abstract

Anesthetics are used widely in medicine to gain the advantage of being pain free during the entire invasive medical procedures. These pharmacologic agents act through inhibiting the voltage-gated channels in cell membrane with so many structural and functional effects on the brain electrophysiological circuits mediated by neural elements such as dendritic hubs architectures and firing rates, neuronal plasticity and remodeling and also spikes formation and molecular signal transmission.

In this regard, anesthetics provide a set of modifications in brain microscale structure and performance with high potential advantages which may be beneficial in treating the cognitive disorders. In fact, all these effects make the anesthetics, a great potential tool to impose some interventional applications in neurologic disorders with abnormal electric current mechanism. In this article we provide these hidden aspects of pharmaco-cognitive agents like benzocaine.
