Fabrication of Novel Magnetic Metal-Organic Framework (MOF): Cobalt Ferrite@Cu3(BTC)2 Nanocomposite

Abstract

An excellent way with supreme yield has been applied to fabricate a magnetic composite material to build the Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) like HKUST-1 and also cobalt ferrite nanoparticles. For this goal, through Pechini sol-gel method as a novel method that present in this paper for the first time and using Iron(III) nitrate, Ethyleneglycol, Ethanol, Methacrylic acid, Copper nitrate, and 1,3,5-benzene tricarboxylic acid, the composite compound was fabricated. The fabricated magnetic compound might be suitable nominate for medical, sorbent, smart materials, and catalyst uses base on its magnetic features. The magnetic composite compound contained both CoFe2O4 and also HKUST-1 as a MOF that characterized and confirmed by different ways like FT-IR, FE-SEM, EDS, XRD, TGA, BET, and VSM. Formation of homogeneous nanoparticles is not the same as the pillar-shape-particles of the metal-organic framework and this approved by the obtained properties from microscopic observations. Both specific surface area and photoluminescence improved in CoFe2O4 nanoparticles, although Ultra-Violet absorption of the composite decreased, but seems thus a compound to be noteworthy enough (with 452 m2/g surface area, prodigious magnetic response 18 emu/g and, with 0.68 cm3/g pore volume) for additional attention.
